Trotere wanted something that would do for a Spanish 'cello solo, and got the idea while playing in the orchestra at the Royal Aquarium, of which he was at that time a member. He rushed out between the performances into a little refreshment-room and asked for some note-paper. They had nothing but a Meredith and Drew biscuit-bag, and on this he wrote down the melody of "In Old Madrid." |
